The readers of your blog posts want good content, many times I see it in forums, i.e, I love to land on a blog that has great content, some readers are actually hooked on reading and love to do so on a daily basis, so it’s your job to get it right for them.
There are a few ways that can actually help out here when that reader finds your blog that would make them want to stay longer for a good read. Hopefully if you’re not already using these tips it will help you gain a few more interested readers that want to stay longer and return more often, giving you the chance to take your blogging career to the next level.
1. Place a Good Headline:
More times than not I see a lot of peoples blogs using a poor headline, you want to have a very eye catching headline, one that captures the attention of the reader once they land on your blog. Remember, you have between 5 to 10 seconds to capture that readers eye, people tend to land on a page and browse over it quickly to see if anything stands out at them, so it’s imperative to have a headline that is going to stand out at them to make them want to click.
2. Content is King:
Content is the key here, try and have content that helps the reader find an answer. One good way to keep a visitor returning is to have “how to” posts spread throughout your blog. Giving a reader a helping hand with how to posts like this is always a great way to have them return. If you can elaborate with video sometimes as a bonus, you’ll get a bigger following for your efforts, people like diversity.
3. Posts That Are Popular:
Place a list of your most popular posts somewhere on your site so that they’re seen throughout every page. A good place to have these interesting posts is at the top of your page, side bar, or at the bottom of every post you write.
4. Comments Section:
When near the end of your blog post, try and get the reader to engage by asking them what they thought of your post, ask them to leave a post, or if they could even add to the post to help improve on it, most times this will engage the reader to leave a good comment, people like to see what others are saying about the post and join in with their thoughts, but it’s good practice to give them a little reminder that you’d love to hear their thoughts, this often triggers their imagination and leaves them wanting to join in.
5. RSS Feed:
Having a clear RSS feed is a great way to get readers returning, but keep in mind, a lot of people still don’t know what an RSS is. It’s simply a tool that you sign up for on someones blog which is very simple to do. Once signed up, all the interesting new posts will arrive to you via email, instead of you having to check back time and time again to see if there is anything new on the blog. It also helps if you can tell the reader how this tool works, some people coming online are new to this and need to be told exactly what it can do to help them out.
6. Posting Often:
I know a lot of people are guilty of this one, heck, I have to hold my hands up to it also, sometimes I can’t seem to find the time to post everyday with all the other online tasks involved. Try though especially in the beginning where one is trying to get their blog of the ground, to post a least 3 to 4 times a week, experienced bloggers will know about that RSS feed we covered, but for someone new online they might not know, if they find your blog and like it, they’ll want to return for more and if you’re not doing regular posts they’ll loose interest, where they’ll be off to find a blog that can deliver. Most blogs teach people online and the newcomer needs to be feed that information every other day if they are going to learn, so one to keep in mind.
7. Posts that Are Related:
I find leaving a few related post at the bottom of my posts works best, as the reader often see this when they’re finished reading the post and more times than not are curious to see what’s next and tend to click through. This gives them a further read on the topic they found in the first place that brought them to your blog, so having related posts can work a treat by getting the visitor to stay for longer periods on your site.
8. Links With Social Networking Sites:
Blog readers are always curious to know who you are, having your blog connected up to social networking sites can pay off big time. “We all know how big social networking sites are becoming.” Giving the reader the option to connect with you through social networking sites makes them feel more welcome. This can boost performance of your blog because the reader sees you very open to letting them join in and spread your word about to their guests.

9. Surveys:
Survey monkey is a program that more and more people are starting to use nowadays. Have a survey now and again placed on your blog and ask questions that would make the reader want to tell you what it is you could explain to them better. Once you have the answers to the most popular questions start answering them on your blog.
10. FREE FREE FREE:
This works a treat on any blog, offering free items once in a while, like an eBook, or maybe video lessons you are given away on a weekly basis can let you have a loyal following. People love free stuff, if you can find the time each week to deliver a short 5 minute video where it shows people especially new comers how to do something online that will further enhance their knowledge on the topic, this leaves them almost certain to come back often and view what you can teach them. After all this is the reason they come in the first place – to learn new information. As I said already, feel free to join in on the conversation and add any thoughts you might have that could spark a good debate
